I will be a 1L this coming fall and currently interested in being a prosecutor.

I am an African American female and will be attending St. Mary’s Law School, and everyone tells me not to pursue that career path because it is not worth it.

Do you have an opinion on the issue of being a Prosecutor. (Or working in the DA’s office, since I would obviously not be a DA anytime soon.)

    Thanks!

    Good luck!

The starting pay for prosecutors in Tarrant County is wrong on this blog. Unfortunately, the Tarrant County website is not updated. The starting pay for a misdemeanor prosecutor is $59,348. The link above takes you to an employment description of a FELONY position. Felony prosecutors make anywhere from $65K to $110K depending on their level of experience.

My thoughts on being a prosecutor: I love it. If you want a job making a lot of money as soon as you come out of law school, this is not the job for you. On the other hand, if you don’t mind working your way up the ladder, being a team player, being in trial and helping people who truly can’t help themselves, then you should consider it. You have to have the right mindset to be a prosecutor: and it isn’t to have a title behind your name.

    Dawn,

Can you share your thoughts on getting a job as a prosecutor? DFW area.

    Thanks.
